Our mandate at the Edo State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is to enhance agricultural productivity, food security, and economic development in Edo State. We aim to achieve this by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, supporting rural agribusiness development, and ensuring the efficient use of resources. We strive to create an enabling environment for agricultural growth, enhance the livelihoods of rural farmers, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the state.

Through our initiatives, we seek to make agriculture a profitable and attractive venture, while ensuring environmental sustainability and food security for all residents of Edo State.

Commissioner’s Profile

Stephen Ehikioya Idehenre, our Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, is a dedicated leader with a strong commitment to agricultural development. Born in Ewossa in Igueben local government area in present Edo State on 2nd September, 1966, Idehenre has a background in law and has shown exceptional leadership in various roles.

Prior to his current role, Idehenre served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Governor’s Office, Edo State, from 2012 to 2014, and as a member of the Edo State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2011. He has also served as the Transition Committee Chairman for Igueben local government area from 2003 to 2004.

Idehenre’s tenure as Commissioner has been marked by significant achievements in increasing food security, promoting sustainable agriculture, and creating employment opportunities for the people of Edo State. His visionary leadership and dedication to the agricultural sector continue to drive positive change and progress in the state.
